I think gutting a gunnlogi in four shots with a proto cannon is perfectly reasonable. that's what it takes from my forge.
I'm rather happy that it does not take a mere two shots and would be in support of this ill-thought out and presented topic if it did take two hits. But I would be making caveats.
I do agree that Swarms need to have a look-at because stacking 5 complex damage mods and a proto shot doing more damage than two prototype forge shots (if your odd numbers are even in the ballpark of accurate) is a bit imbalanced, with a heavy emphasis on understatement.
However I believe that the assertion that one player should be able to force 4-6 other players to peel off to effectively deal with them ludicrous.
One tank? One AV gunner and either keep you off the field or destroy you if the AV gunner is good at what they do.
However, I'm perfectly comfortable with a well-fit and well-piloted tank to require two AV gunners to bring down, but that should be a skill question, rather akin to whether or not that imperfect over there can take you AND your buddy.
It should not require an entire team dropping what they are doing to stop you while allowing the rest of your team to run merrily unchecked without resistance, or allowing you to roll over them with impunity.
That's what AV gunners are supposed to be: Little obnoxious speedbumps there to remind you that you are not unstoppable.
Should a prototype swarm be able to hit for over 5000 damage? Hell no. I cannot even approach that number with a prototype forge gun on a heavy frame. Everyone gets to outgun the supposed AV class right now. Heavy is actually the challenging one because we can't fire a forge gun over a freaking hilltop. We have to ENGAGE you, rather than remote detonate you. We have to risk death.
I have lost duels with good tank drivers who were on the ball, and managing their tactics and cooldowns like pros.
Against a tank driver who is lazy, poorly fit or stupid enough to believe that sitting immobile is a good idea? You guys are barely a speedbump on my road to free warpoints.
the drivers who are mobile at all times, aware of chokepoints where they can get ambushed (and don't go there) and good at shooting don't die. Not unless they have multiple gunners hammer on them.
But AV guns are meant to be the rock to your scissors. AV should not ever be nerfed to the point where an anti vehicle weapon in play is not a significant threat.
Further, when marauders are released back into the game, they read as PRO in the crosshairs. That's the Prototype marker from Chromosome. I think CCP is moving away from the dropsuit tier type metric and into the vehicle class metric. Just like Logi LAVs don't say basic, advanced or prototype. they say "Logistics" when you hover the gunsight over them. |
